Lecture by Dr. Curtis D. Klaassen
Abstract:
Dr. Klaassen's lecture will present some recent data on liver function and toxicity and his philosophy on what might be shown to be important mechanisms of drug-induced hepatotoxicity in the future. Three major topics will be discussed: (1) an animal model that indicates the mechanism of isoniazid-induced hepatotoxicity, (2) role of bile acids in drug-induced hepatotoxicity and (3) the role of the intestinal microbiota in drug-induced hepatotoxicity.
Bio:
Curtis D. Klaassen, PhD is University Distinguished Professor at the University of Kansas. His research interests center on the liver: drug transporters, drug metabolism enzymes, and hepatotoxicity. Dr. Klaassen is editor of Casarett and Doulls Toxicology textbook, has been president of the Society of Toxicology and in 2012 received the Merit Award from the society of Toxicology.
